My path into the field of education was upward and curvy. In other words, I didn't set out to be a teacher. My original plan out of college was to be a digital arts desiger, but then I found myself taking a detour to be a professional Taiko player with San Jose Taiko (SJT). I guess you could say that performance arts is still in the "art" field. I soon realized that I loved teaching kids. Conducting taiko workshops across the country as well as performing at hundreds of schools among the Bay Area, and also teaching kids in SJT's Junior Taiko program gave me a window into the world of teaching. To witness the growth in my students both physically and emotionally was so rewarding. I wanted more of it!
Fast forward 20+ years, I continue to use my teaching and leadership experiences that I gained by working in different school districts, in different grade levels, and in different positions. From inclusion strategies to small group format to growth mindset approach and everything inbetween, I'm still passionate about the magic of learning. My favorite part of teaching is the "Ah-ha!" moment. I will never forget the moment when a student's turning point with reading was his discovery of Harry Potter.
When I'm not teaching, you can find me spending time with my husband and two kids either hiking, playing card games or watching a movie. But whatever activity I'm involved in; whatever career turn I take, I know that the love of learning will always play a huge part!
