Rationale:

The Governing Board will recognize out-going Measure G Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee Members:

Campbell Union School District created the Measure G Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee upon passage of the 2010 Measure G School Bond.  Michael Rich and Michele Braucht have served as representatives on the Committee.

The Governing Board would like to publicly thank them for their service to the community and the District.

Rationale:

Campbell Union School District will be recognizing top performing attendance staff from our sites. Based on 2015-16 results, these individuals have the most improvement in attendance rates across all absence types (excused, unexcused, and chronic).

Campbell Union School District transitional kindergarten (TK) teachers Lucy Bettencourt, Stacy Enfantino, Megan Ferrito, Katie Hall and Laura Nulty addressed the Governing Board regarding TK aides in the classroom.
12. INFORMATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEMS

12.1. Summer Programs Update

Rationale:

The Summer Academy took place at Lynhaven Elementary School for grades 1-5 from June 20-July 15th. The Summer Academy served students who were performing up to two grade levels below in Math and English Language Arts. Also at Lynhaven this summer were two Elevate Math classes. These are done in partnership with the Silicon Valley Education Foundation.

The Extensions department ran a variety of summer programs from June 13th-August 17th at Forest Hill, Lynhaven, Monroe Middle School, and Campbell Middle School. The programs included Adventures in STREAM, CampbellCare Summer Camp, The Crew, Summer Learning Express, Tech Camp and a summer musical production. These programs provided families with a combination of fee-based and subsidized options.

13.1. Authorization To Purchase Common Core Math Workbooks Through FedEx Office For District Wide Common Core Math Implementation

Rationale:

In accordance with Public Code section 20118.3, the Board can authorize the purchase of supplementary textbooks needed for the operation of the schools without advertising for bids. We will be continuing the use of the Eureka Math Curriculum for the 2016-2017 school year.  We continue to use FedEx this year to keep costs down and to accommodate customization of the math workbooks to better meet the needs of the teachers and students.  Using a local printer saves us money as there are no shipping charges and they can provide a faster turn around time for materials. FedEx worked with us to make the workbooks different for each grade level based on input from teachers.

13.4. Overnight Field Trip Request: Sherman Oaks Elementary School 5th Grade Students To Camp Campbell, YMCA Of The Redwoods, Boulder Creek

Rationale:

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

This trip will support our intermediate grade studies of ecosystems native to California, addressing California State science and science standards. Trip activities include the study of a redwood/mixed evergreen natural community, environmental life cycles (photosynthesis, succession, erosion, and natural selection), our solar system (via night hike), interdependence of organisms, and human impact on natural resources. The YMCA provides trained staff to serve as cabin leaders and ecosystem teachers.

13.5. Reclassification Criteria

Rationale:

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

There are four required criteria identified by the California State Department of Education that must be used for reclassification of English Learners to Fluent English Proficiency.  They are:

  1. Assessment of language proficiency, using an objective instrument (CELDT)
  2. Comparison of student performance in basic skills against an empirically established range of performance in basic skills based on the performance of English proficient students of the same age
  3. Teacher evaluation/recommendation
  4. Parent consultation

Campbell Union School District’s reclassification criteria have been updated.  After consulting with our reviewer for Federal Program Monitoring for English Learners, the criteria for the Comparison in Basic Skills and Teacher Recommendation have been updated to meet the state requirements and to support our English Learners.

Rationale:

Enclosed is a detail listing of all Santa Clara County Treasury Investments and a list of all bank balances of Campbell Union School District as of June 30, 2016.   The average County pool yield on June 30, 2016 was 0.90%.  The prior quarter yield was 0.83%.

13.7. Authorized Signer For The Cal-Card Program

Rationale:

The State of California has entered into an agreement with U.S. Bank for purchase card (CAL-Card) services. The agreement provides eligible participating agencies with VISA purchase card services for the acquisition of goods and services. The District is in need of two cards for the Extensions and Child Nutritional Services departments which will primarily be used to purchase food items from Costco. U.S. Bank requires an authorized signer on the program.

Rationale:

Californians for Drug-Free Youth, Inc. sponsored the first statewide Red Ribbon campaign in 1986.  The National Federation of Parents for Drug-Free Youth, Inc. sponsored the first nationwide campaign in 1988.

The red ribbon symbolizes commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.  The campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment toward the creation of a drug-free America.  Educational agencies throughout the nation are urged to proclaim October 23rd-31st as Red Ribbon Week, and to conduct appropriate programs and activities during the week.

14.2. Election Of Members to the Santa Clara County Committee On School District Organization

Rationale:

The Santa Clara County Committee on School District Organization (County Committee) is comprised of 11 elected members – two members from each of the five County Supervisorial Districts and one at-large member.  Members are elected to four year terms by representatives from the governing boards of the 37 Santa Clara County school districts (one vote from each district).

 

The primary responsibilities of the County Committee are the reorganization of school districts (through territory transfers and unification) and the establishment/rearrangement of governing board trustee areas in the school districts.  The County Committee is the central initiator, coordinator, facilitator, and arbitrator for these operations.  It formulates plans, responds to petitions, conducts public hearings, develops and releases information, and analyzes proposals.
