Education Beyond the Expected
It means there’s more here for your child!
Our class sizes are smaller than most other districts.
We have a lower district-wide pupil-to-teacher ratio than most districts in the county, especially in the early primary grades. With fewer students, teachers can develop more individualized instruction and really get to know their different learning needs.
All-Day Kindergarten: our students thrive with it.
Instead of cramming all of the rigorous State Standards into a half-day program, all of our Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten students benefit from a 6-hour school day. That allows more time for these little learners to learn, try, play and grow.
We run our own high quality preschools.
It makes for greater continuity and readiness for Kindergarten.
We ensure that everything about our child-focused preschool program aligns with what the children need to learn before entering in Kindergarten. Students reap the benefits of this closer preschool-to-kindergarten teacher collaboration. Families benefit from the closer connection they develop with the school community and resources.
We operate our own enriching afterschool programs.
They strike a great balance between afterschool fun and afterschool learning. Whether students are having fun in afterschool care, athletics, drama, and enrichment classes the afterschool time is not only an extension of what they are learning, but also a chance to learn and experience something new. Our afterschool team of staff collaborates with school day staff to infuse classroom academic language and behavior expectations into the student activities. The team approach fosters an environment of enthusiasm and high expectations of success for all students.
The arts are alive and well in our district.
CUSD is one of the few districts to give students the opportunity to participate in yearly high quality drama productions at their own sites afterschool. We encourage our students to strive for excellence through teamwork in a live theatre experience. The district also collaborates with a variety of local artists in different fields to share their expertise with our students through hands on experiences.
