District assessments happen periodically all year
In kindergarten and first grade, teachers are using a new reading assessment tool called the Benchmark Assessment System (BAS) from Fountas&Pinnell. This assessment is given one-on-one to students, three times during the year, in order to measure growth in reading. Kindergarten is also using a new math assessment that is given one-on-one to students three times during the school year.
They are also using an online diagnostic assessment tool (iReady) to measure student growth and mastery of the Common Core Standards in reading and mathematics. Students in grades 1-8 will be assessed in mathematics; students in grades 2-8 will be assessed in reading. The iReady diagnostic assessment will take place three times throughout the year—fall, winter and spring—in order to measure growth and track progress towards meeting standards.
