6th Graders Excel at First Social Innovation Camp

Students won first place with solutions to California’s drought.

Sixth graders tackle real-world problem and win!

Dressed in their most professional attire, sixth graders from Sherman Oaks School took the prize at the first Social Innovation Camp for middle school students, sponsored by Junior Achievement and Microsoft Silicon Valley. The students spent the day learning what it’s like to collaborate at work to solve a big problem—in this case California’s drought. Students worked in teams, brainstorming and researching ideas, then preparing a presentation for a panel of Microsoft “judges.”

First Place winners received Microsoft Surface Tablets. They are Anthony Alba, ReElle Snyder, Litzy Carrera, Alexis Gomez, Sulamith Caceres. They will be presented to the Campbell Union School District Governing Board for special recognition on Thur., Jan. 22, 2015.

The teams earning second and third place awards included: Isabella Batraz, Brittany Canales, Leo Carillo, Fernando Matias, Gerardo Rivera, Robert Cortez, Arnulfo Quezadas, Jennifer Mendez, Alex Lira, Ariana Vasquez.
