Summertime Smiles: What to Expect in July Across Our District!
Learning and commitment to our core values carries into the summer months. Read below to see what offerings the month of July as in CUSD.
The school hallways might be quiet, but July is bursting with activity across our school district! Whether your family is busy soaking up the sun, diving into a good summer book, or already thinking about the upcoming school year, July is a vital bridge month.
Here is your sneak peek at what is happening, what to prepare for, and how to make the most of the mid-summer weeks.
Keeping Minds Active
Just because school is out doesn't mean the learning stops! Our core value of being a learner can still be engaged through the summer. The Santa Clara Library District has a summer reading program and free activities that are fun for the entire family and Campbell Union students already have a free library account thanks to our partnership with the library district.
Being outside also offers a variety of learning opportunities such as nature walks, studying shadows, identifying shapes/color/numbers in the neighborhood buildings, learning about weather and cloud patterns, and so much more.
Summer is an opportunity to limit screen time and explore creativity, innovation, and the community.
Campus Check-In: Summer Upgrades
If you drive past our schools this month, you will likely see construction crews and maintenance teams hard at work. July is our prime time for deep cleaning and campus upgrades. This month, we are focusing on:
- Deep Cleaning and Repairs: Giving our campuses a bright, clean, fresh start to the new school year.
- Playground Safety Swaps: Inspecting all outdoor equipment and refreshing the rubber flooring to ensure recess is safe and fun.
- Tech Rollouts: Our IT team is busy preparing student devices for a seamless rollout in the fall.
Mark Your Calendar
While August brings the official start of school, July has a few key dates to keep on your radar:
- July 3 and 6 - District Office is closed for the Fourth of July holiday
- July 17 - Expanded Learning’s Summer Program’s performance of Disney Junior’s Dare to Dream
- August 19 - First Day of School
Beat the August Rush: Quick Tips for Caregivers
Want to make the transition back to school a breeze? Here are a few recommendations for this month:
- The Routine Shift: About two weeks before July ends, start moving bedtimes and wake-up times forward by 10 to 15 minutes every few days. Getting back on a school schedule gradually prevents that first-week-of-school exhaustion!
- Health Checkups: July is the perfect time to schedule those required kindergarten or new-student immunizations and physicals before clinics get booked solid in August.
- Independence Practice: If you have an incoming TK/kindergartener, use July to practice opening lunchboxes, zipping up backpacks, and buttoning pants independently.
